A&M reaches 800 wins

The Aggies’ 34-7 victory was the 800th in program history. Their ground game produced 231 yards on 49 attempts, and freshman backs Carsyn Baker and KJ Edwards combined for three rushing touchdowns. Marcel Reed added 170 passing yards and 66 rushing yards.

That gives A&M a useful backfield contribution to carry into Missouri week. One productive night does not settle the season-long running-back rotation, but the freshmen supplied scoring plays in a game the Aggies needed after losses to Kentucky and LSU.

Tech’s defense wins a game with offensive disruptions

Texas Tech intercepted four passes and shut Colorado out after the opening quarter. John Curry’s interception in the end zone became a defensive touchdown. Will Hammond passed for 134 yards, including a touchdown to Terrance Carter Jr.

The result came with two availability concerns. Cameron Dickey left with an ankle injury, and Thomas Castellanos could not play following an eligibility ruling. Kirk Francis served as Hammond’s backup for the Colorado game. Dickey’s return and Castellanos’s next-game eligibility remain unresolved as Tech enters its bye.

Read the Texas Tech quarterback and availability update for the effect on the quarterback room and short-yardage options.

Baylor gets five touchdowns from Lagway

DJ Lagway threw four touchdown passes and scored once on the ground in Baylor’s 55-19 win. His 306 passing yards came in his second game back after the ankle absence that had given Nate Bennett two starts.

Ryelan Morris broke a 63-yard touchdown run and Caden Knighten scored from 75 yards. Those plays added an explosive rushing component to the passing production. Baylor is now 2-0 in conference play and has a bye before hosting TCU. The Baylor update follows Lagway’s return and the backfield contributions.

Houston rallies; SMU wins despite the yardage deficit

Houston trailed UCF 17-0 before scoring 27 unanswered points. Conner Weigman’s three rushing touchdowns drove the comeback, turning a scoreless first half into the Cougars’ first Big 12 win of the season. Houston next visits Kansas State.

SMU beat Boston College 25-16 even though the Eagles led total yardage 322-218. The win moves the Mustangs to 2-1 in the ACC. The yardage difference matters when assessing the offense: the final score alone makes the performance look more comfortable than its possession-by-possession production. SMU is off this week and hosts Virginia on October 17.

TCU falls short; UTSA protects a two-point lead

TCU and BYU were tied 7-7 at halftime before BYU won 17-10. Jaden Craig’s touchdown pass to Kari Ashley supplied TCU’s only touchdown. The Frogs enter their bye 0-2 in the Big 12, with Baylor next.

UTSA built a 16-7 halftime lead at Rice and held on 16-14 without scoring in the second half. Michael Petro made three first-half field goals, and the defense stopped Rice’s final possession. The Roadrunners have a short turnaround: South Florida visits the Alamodome on Thursday, October 8.

Texas remains 4-0 and returns against Oklahoma on October 10. See the Red River game guide and the schedule for upcoming kickoffs.
