ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders are Big 12 Champions.

In a stunning display of dominance, Texas Tech defeated BYU 34-7 on Saturday at AT&T Stadium to win their first-ever Big 12 Championship. The victory also marks the program's first outright conference title since 1955, snapping a 70-year drought.

Historic performance

The Red Raiders (11-2) controlled the game from the opening kickoff. The offense moved the ball at will against a stout BYU defense, while the "Wreck 'Em" defense forced three turnovers and kept the Cougars out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter.

This win completes a remarkable turnaround for the program under head coach Joey McGuire. "This is for every Red Raider out there," McGuire said during the trophy presentation. "We talked about leaving a legacy, and this team has done just that."

Playoff Bound

With the conference championship secured, Texas Tech earns an automatic bid to the College Football Playoff. As one of the five highest-ranked conference champions, they are projected to receive a top-4 seed and a first-round bye, allowing them to rest before hosting a quarterfinal matchup.

BYU (10-3) will await their bowl destination, likely headed to a prominent bowl game such as the Alamo Bowl or Pop-Tarts Bowl, pending the final CFP rankings.
