Sarkisian Finalizes 2026 Staff: Scott & Orphey Arrive
Steve Sarkisian completes his coaching staff for the 2026 season with the additions of Chad Scott (RB) and Mark Orphey (CB).
AUSTIN, Texas — With spring practice on the horizon, Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has officially completed his coaching staff for the 2026 season, announcing two key hires on Sunday.
Chad Scott has been named the new running backs coach, while Mark Orphey joins the staff to lead the cornerbacks room. Both additions bring a wealth of experience and strong recruiting ties to the Forty Acres.
Chad Scott: A proven developer of talent
Scott arrives in Austin with a reputation as one of the top running back developers in the country. His most recent stops have seen him produce multiple 1,000-yard rushers and NFL draft picks.
"Chad fits our culture perfectly," Sarkisian said in a statement. "He's energetic, detail-oriented, and understands what it takes to play the position at an elite level. our running back room is in great hands."
Scott will be tasked with maximizing a talented backfield that includes returning star Jaydon Blue, sophomore standout Jerrick Gibson, and high-profile transfer Raleek Brown.
Mark Orphey: Strengthening the Secondary
On the defensive side, Mark Orphey takes over a cornerback unit that is reloading after the departure of Malik Muhammad to the NFL Draft. Orphey comes to Texas after a successful stint where his unit led their conference in pass breakups.
Orphey will work closely with new Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp and returning Defensive Passing Game Coordinator Blake Gideon. His primary objective will be to develop young talent like Santana Wilson and 5-star freshman Jonah Williams into SEC-caliber starters.
Internal Promotions
In addition to the new hires, Sarkisian announced that Keynodo Hudson has been promoted to coach the STAR (nickel) position, further solidifying the defensive staff structure.
With the staff now set, the focus shifts entirely to winter conditioning and the upcoming spring game, where fans will get their first look at the 2026 Longhorns.
